Admission

All Morgridge College of Education (MCE) program applicants must complete the online application.  The links below will assist you in navigating through the admission process.

General Application Requirements

Application Fee

All applicants* are required to pay a $60 non refundable fee, which covers the cost of processing application materials. The application fee may be paid with a credit card (applies to online applications only), but only at time of submission. The application fee may also be paid on a bank draft or personal check drawn on a U.S. bank and mailed to the address given above. Applications will not be forwarded to the department for review until this fee is paid. No waivers or deferrals are allowed. Online applicants:  once you have submitted your fee, you cannot revisit the application and make changes.

*McNair Scholars may request the application fee to be waived by submitting proof of status as a McNair Scholar to the Office of Graduate Admissions, 2197 S. University Blvd., University Hall Room 216, Denver, CO 80208.

Admissions Examinations

  • The GRE General Test is required for all MA and PhD programs except for the following:
    • Buell Early Childhood Leadership Program (BECLP)
    • The Leadership & Organizational Change for Professionals, MA in Higher Education
    • Library and Information Science
    • Principal Licensure (WSEPP, Ritchie, APSLA)
    • Master's degree in Educational Administration
  • MAT (Miller Analogies Test) This test is an option for Curriculum and Instruction applicants as well as TEP/CLAMP applicants

  • PLACE (Program for Licensing Assessments for Colorado Educators. This test is an option for Boettcher and TEP/CLAMP applicants

  • Praxis II This test is an option for Boettcher and TEP/CLAMP applicants.

  • TOEFL or IELTS (Required for international applicants who do not have a degree from an accredited English-speaking university in addition to other tests required by the program the TOEFL or IELTS is required for.) Minimum scores required:
    • TOEFL: Paper-based - 550, Computer-based - 213, Internet based - 80. 
    • IELTS - 7.0
    • International students applying for a teaching assistantship must score 26 or higher on the TOEFL iBT speaking subsection, or 50 on the Test of Spoken English.

Letters of Recommendation

Three (3) letters are required. Please print off the recommendation form and either fill out by hand or attach to a letter addressing each of the components.  Ritchie and Buell applicants should refer to the supplemental materials found below for specific nomination forms.

Transcripts

Two (2) official, sealed transcripts from all institutions where 2 or more credit hours (1.5 or more semester credit hours) were completed. 

Statement of Professional Goals

In an essay, explain your reasons for pursuing graduate study in the Morgridge College of Education, addressing the following points.  Applicants to the Higher Education Doctoral Program should click this link and follow these guidelines in writing the essay

  1. Your personal, educational, and employment experiences that have shaped your desire for advanced study.
  2. A statement of your professional objectives and how you arrived at them.
  3. An explanation of what you hope to obtain from your chosen concentration and how you intend to apply it professionally.
  4. Your statement should be approximately 2-3 pages, typed and double-spaced.
