Ritchie Program for School Leaders ranks top in national study
In recent years, many educational leadership preparation programs have redesigned their content and delivery to be more influential in graduates' leadership and career development. Until now, however, there has been little research to demonstrate the effectiveness of program design features or even agreement on outcome measures to use to assess effectiveness. In 2003, the Taskforce on Evaluating Educational Leadership Preparation was created to promote research on the effectiveness of leadership preparation programs. Susan Korach has been an active contributor to this taskforce for the past three years. To read the complete report, click here.
Principal Preparation Programs
Successful schools and students are dependent on well qualified principals who are not only professional teacher-developers. In addition to being responsible for the capacity building of all staff, aspiring principals/leaders must also be prepared with the expertise required for the implementation of the school development cycle, including data collection; collaborative analysis; establishment of goals; and the restructuring of teaching, learning, and assessment.
These programs are held in a variety of locations in Denver, as well as in several surrounding communities. Classes are conducted in a lock-step cohort format, following a prescribed curriculum that has been uniquely devised for each location. Principal Preparation Program district partnerships have also been formed between Educational Administration and the following school districts: Denver Public Schools, Adams Five Star, 1, 12 and 27J; and Aurora. Each of these partnership programs is designed to meet specific district personnel needs.
The condensed schedule of courses for the Principal Preparation Programs provides an intensive experience that allows students to complete all program components required for Type-D licensure recommendation within one calendar year. The Principal Preparation Programs at the University of Denver are approved by the Colorado Department of Education.
