Snapshots in Time
Travel through time to trace the University's evolution from frontier outpost to top-ranked University.
Throughout the decades, research at DU is focused on results that have a positive impact on society.
Even as early as 1899, DU students have been involved in many clubs and activities. The Alpine Club is our oldest and largest student-run organization.
Whether they're advocating for "green" energy or fair-trade practices, student activism continues today. Here, students protesting the Vietnam War and the killings of four Kent State students represented the 1970 "Woodstock West."
Pioneer hockey remains a DU tradition. From Notre Dame, shown here in 1972, or present-day rival Colorado College, NCAA Division I athletics always give fans something to cheer about.
Built in 1910, Buchtel Chapel was destroyed by fire in 1983. One of the chapel spires suvived the fire, and the Victory Bell in its tower rings on special occasions.
